A reminder that we will be having our annual Ready Steady Cook event tomorrow, Saturday 7th April. We will be meeting at 12 noon and hoping to finish around 4pm.
Patrols will compete against each other and be assessed in a number of areas, including:
Teamwork
Hygiene
Pioneering skills (building your fire)
Fire skills (starting and maintaining a good fire)
Food taste
Food presentation
Cleanup
There is a chance of rain so every scout must have hiking boots, rain trousers and rain coat (with a hood).
Our 4 patrols competed against each other in our annual Ready Steady Cook cooking competition. There was an extremely high standard of food produced, it was scrumdiddlyumptious!
A Massive thanks to Richie and Deirdre from Dublin Fire Brigade for giving up their time and being our guest inspectors last Thursday. They were very impressed with the standard of uniforms so keep it up. A few Scouts lost points for being late so make sure you are on time next week!
We have tallied their scores and updated the overall leaderboard. This is how things stand, going into the final week:
The Falcons – 2125 points
The Curlews – 2031 points
The Eagles – 1957 points
It is extremely close at this stage, and any Patrol could win it! With a possible 400 points up for grabs for the Patrol Activity this could prove the difference. We know there are activities planned so it would be advisable to go and do your activity…..it could prove to be crucial!
Investiture
This Thursday we will be investing all of the Scouts who have recently joined us.
The ceremony will be taking place at the end of our meeting this Thursday (4th Dec) at 8:30pm . Aoife, Heather, Seán, Sophie, Harry, Nicole, Jamie, Adam, David and Chloe will all be making their official Scout Promise and earning their neckerchief! Families are invited to join us, take photos and witness the ceremony. It will kick off at 8:30pm. Looking forward to seeing you all then.
Well done to each and every Scout who took part in our annual Ready Steady Cook competition today. It was great to see so many Scouts today, showing off their culinary (that means cooking!) skills.
It was a difficult challenge but all 3 Patrols rose to the challenge and got stuck in from the start. After using their pioneering skills to build their altar fires, they got cracking on keeping their fire lit and cooked a tasty 3 course meal….. maintaining high levels of hygiene and safety at all times.
As with all of the activities involved in the Interpatrol competition so far, the scoring was extremely close with only 32 points separating 1st and 3rd place, the Ready Steady Cookresults are:
The overall standings can be seen in the Interpatrol Competition section of our website. There are a couple of weeks left in the competition so make sure to keep up the stellar effort!!
A big thanks to Alan and Henry from the Irish Naval Service for visiting us this evening. They inspected our uniforms and were very impressed by the high standards – keep up the great work!!!! High scoring all round!
The competition is really hotting up in the Interpatrol Competition. The highest scorers at tonight’s meeting were The Curlews, scoring highly with all Patrol members at the meeting and getting top marks in the Challenges and Drill. They won’t have it easy though…. The Falcons and The Eagles are also flying high. Both Patrols completed the Patrol Badge challenge, and all turned up this evening proudly wearing their Patrol badges earning precious points!!! Well done, it was a difficult task but you rose to the challenge!
The full breakdown of scoring can be seen under the Interpatrol Competition tab at the top of this page. It is extremely close at this stage…. anyone can win it:
The Falcons – 1034 points
The Curlews – 1013 points
The Eagles – 977 points

Philae and Rosetta
As you know, the theme of our Interpatrol Competition is Communications…. and as we discussed the robot Philae landed on a comet about 450 million km (or three times the distance to the sun) last week and he was still able to communicate with us. Check out the videos below to find out about his and Rosetta’s 10 year journey through space
Irish Sign Language Alphabet
Tying in with our Communications theme, each Scout was set the challenge of learning how to spell their name using sign language. Lets hope you can all spell your name!
Our interpatrol competition kicked off last week and will run all the way to Christmas. Which Patrol is the greatest in the Raven Troop? (Time will reveal all…..). We will spend time on Thursday talking about your Patrol’s identity (ideas for Patrol names in the picture above).
We have set up a new section dedicated to the competition – click on Interpatrol Competition tab at the top of this page to keep updated. You can find out how to earn points for your Patrol so try to rack up as many points as you can!!!
Guest Uniform Inspection
We will have a guest, who is a Group leader from another Scout Group, visiting this Thursday.
A very high standard of uniform is expected from all Scouts so please ensure you have perfect uniform.
The picture to the right displays all elements of a perfect uniform.
Don’t forget your Interpatrol Competition Bookletas well….. remember this must be brought to every meeting.
A massive Well Done and Thank You to our Regional Shield team who represented our troop at the weekend!!! They worked extremely hard during the training, in the run up to the competition and got stuck in all weekend! Well done! Your enthusiasm, motivation, teamwork and skills represented the best qualities of the Raven Troop! Take a bow!
Good Luck to the Regional Shield Team
Best of luck to our Regional Shield team who are representing the Troop this weekend.
Get stuck in and enjoy the weekend!
Cake Sale
The Cubs and Beavers are running a Cake Sale on Sunday morning. It’s on in the Den and will be on for a few hours…..as long as there are goodies left.
It’d be great if you could spread the word and support them. Make sure to get there early to get all the best stuff!
Don’t spend all of your pocket money buying the leaders cakes, but you can spend most of it!
Well done to all for your stellar work over the past 6 weeks and really getting stuck into the Interpatrol Competition
The points have been counted, checked and re-checked and the winning patrol……. will be announced on Thursday!
We will have a Pizza Party and Ceremony to present the winning patrol with their well deserved prizes. Uniform is not needed – just neckerchief and we will finish the meeting at 8:30…..
