Knockree Hostel Weekend – Gear List and Info

Hi all,

We will be heading to Knockree this weekend and staying in the hostel. We will be meeting on Friday at 6.45pm, travelling to Knockree and heading out on the hills on Saturday. We will be staying in a hostel but everyone will need lots and lots of warm clothes and rain gear (rain coat with a hood and rain trousers). At the moment the forecast is “thick cloud cover with a couple of showers”

As discussed with the scouts – Mobile phones will not be needed, mobile coverage is very limitied. any Scout’s phones will be collected by leaders at the start of the weekend.

We are aiming to be back at the Den on Sunday at 12pm.

The full gear list is below:

  • Neckerchief
  • Full raingear (Trousers, and Jacket with hood: Must be water proof
  • Warm Clothes
  • Hat and Gloves
  • Hiking boots
  • Towel
  • Wash gear
  • Eating Utensils (Cup, plate, bowl, knife, fork, spoon)
  • Water bottle
  • Torch – preferably a head torch with spare batteries
  • A rucksack to put it all in
  • Plastic Bags

Bring the following if you have it:

  • A penknife (if you have permission from your parents)
  • A basic first aid kit

Larch Hill – Hostelling – Friday 13th

Hi all,

We will be heading to Larch Hill this weekend and staying in the Centenary Lodge Hostel. We will be meeting on Friday at 7pm, travelling to Larch Hill and heading out on the hills on Saturday. We will be staying in a hostel but everyone will need lots and lots of warm clothes and rain gear (rain coat with a hood and rain trousers).

We are aiming to be back at the Den on Sunday at 1pm. The cost of the weekend is €25.

MPC and Darkness into Light – Fri 6th May

There’s a mega busy weekend ahead for the Raven Troop. We have an MPC and Darkness into Light event. Full details of both below……

MPC
4 of our Scouts (Sinéad, Patrick, Dylan and Sarah) will be heading down to Wicklow to take on the challenge of the Leinster MPC (Mountian Pursuit Challenge – http://www.mpcteam.ie). The MPCs are weekends of adventurous backpacking in the mountains. They are designed to be tough and challenging and aim to improve hiking, lightweight camping and navigation skills in the hills. Our MPC team will be camping in the Wicklow hills on Friday and Saturday night and taking on a challenging hike all day on the Saturday. No bother to yas!!

Darkness into Light
The rest of our troop will be helping out at the Darkness into Light event in Malahide Castle. It will take place in the early hours of Saturday morning. We will be meeting at the Den at 11:30pm on Friday night and heading across to Malahide Castle to help set up.
The main event will start at 4:15 am and we expect to be back at the Den at approximately 8:00 am (Saturday morning).
All Scouts are welcome to attend but remember it is taking place very early in the morning and will be very challenging. If you feel up to it we will see you Saturday morning.
If you are coming, you will need – a torch, warm clothes and some snacks to keep you going through the night.

Glendalough – 17th-19th October – Gear List

We can’t wait for the upcoming weekend in Glendalough. The cost of the weekend is €15. We will be leaving on Friday evening and returning on Sunday afternoon.

As the Scouting Motto goes – Bí Ullamh (Be prepared), so in preparation we talked about what gear we need for the weekend at last week’s meeting. Below is a reminder of the gear needed.

Lough Dan – Camping Weekend – 23rd-25th May

Hi All,

A reminder that we will be heading to Lough Dan next weekend (Fri 23rd- Sat 25th May). We’ll be hiking up Scarr Mountain and camping beside the lake in Lough Dan. The cost is €10 per Scout. We hope you all can make it!

As you all know, we will be heading to Larch Hill this weekend. There are still a few spaces available so let us know on Thursday if you are interested in coming along. We are hoping to get as many Scouts as possible to come along! Below are the details.

Return Time:      Sunday at 2:00pm

Below is the list of gear everyone will need for next weekend. We will be sleeping in the lodge in dorms – you need to bring sleeping bags.

Kings of the Mountain – Leinster MPC

A massive well done to the lads who completed the Leinster MPC at the weekend. The Brackenstown team took part in the tough and challenging hike in the Black Hill area of the Wicklow mountains.

The event took place over three days and two nights camping on the hills and the Raven Troop were represented by Ronan – Fair play to ya and well done!!!
