Important Update – First day back Thursday 22nd

There’s a couple of updates below:

First Meeting back – Thursday 22nd September

We will not be meeting this week and are postponing our first week back until Thursday 22nd September, due to leader availability.

Fingal County Camp

The Fingal County camp will take place from Fri 23rd – Sun 25th September in Larch Hill. There will be an opportunity to mix with scouts from all over Fingal, partake in skills bases, games, challenges and campfire! The cost of the weekend is €30.

Raven Patrol – Phoenix Challenge 2016

The day has finally arrived! The Raven Patrol are all set for the Phoenix Challenge and will be setting off on their adventure in Waterford this evening. Well done to the whole patrol who put in an absolutely amazing amount of work into their preparation over the past couple of months (and years!!)!
Paddy, Stephen, Aoife, Heather, Nicole, Dylan, Katie F. and Katie H. – Have an absolute ball, and enjoy every second of the whole event!!

Annual Camp 2016 – Details


1. Details of our Camp

We will be camping at a campsite in Petersburg Outdoor Education Centre, Co.Galway. We’ll be spending 7 days (6 nights) on camp. Sunday 10th July – Saturday 16th July. We will be meeting at 10.30am on Sunday morning……

The week is jam-packed with awesome activities….swimming, raft building, water activities, cycling, trip to Aran Islands, gorge walking, abseiling, caving, bivvying (sleeping under the stars), fire lighting, cooking, trip to Galway city, camping and much much more!!
There will be a total of 33 Scouts and 7 leaders travelling.

2. Gear List

We will be travelling in full uniform so it is advisable to wear your hiking boots.  You must have the correct gear to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable camp.

Some people have asked about survival bag, these are available in most camping shops, e.g. -> Scout Shop  We will be spending one night sleeping under the stars on an island, with no tent so the survival bag is needed to ensure you are warm and dry.

It is also a good idea to have spare neckerchief(s). If you have any questions or think of anything that needs to be added to the list, let us know. It is essential that you have all the gear, please do not forget anything.

  • Full Uniform (Neckerchief, Scout Shirt, Scout Trousers, Belt, Dark Shoes)
  • Eating utensils (Plate, Bowl, Cup, Knife, Fork, Spoon)
  • Survival/Bivvy Bag
  • Sleeping Bag
  • Ground Mat
  • Hiking boots
  • Runners (old for water sports)
  • A few changes of clothes
  • Good waterproof raincoat with hood
  • Rain trousers
  • Spare socks, underwear
  • Warm fleece, Jumper  (even though it’s summer!!)
  • Pyjamas
  • Swimming gear
  • Towel
  • Sun cream
  • Medications  (to be handed to Leaders)
  • Insect repellent
  • Personal first aid kit
  • Toiletries
  • Water bottle
  • Torch
  • A few black bags
  • Whistle
  • A small day bag

If you have them:

  • Camera
  • Penknife
  • Colouring Pencils, stickers etc.. for log book

3. Petersburg Outdoor Education Centre

Petersburg Outdoor Education Centre, has since 1988 developed many exciting outdoor adventure sports activities and challenging expeditions.
The centre is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, staffed by enthusiastic well qualified instructors.

5. Phones and Money

Accommodation, food and all activities are already paid for so you can bring some spending money for sweets, treats and souvenirs. The maximum amount that you can bring is €40.
We will do the usual procedure with phones. Phones will be handed up to leaders at the start of camp. You will all be too busy doing amazing activities to use them anyway! Scouts can then use their phones every second day.
