At the beginning of March our PLs decided they wanted to move onto the Pioneering element of the Scouting Programme.
The 3 Patrols were each marooned on “islands” and had to use their pioneering skills to build bridges to each others islands, this really put the lashings to the test!
Patrols were challenged to prepare 2 different types of Bruschetta –
1. Chargrilled Red Pepper and Basil
2. Avocado, Salmon and Dill
Each Patrol was provided with the freshest of ingredients and a list with the 18 Steps involved in preparing each dish. Each Patrol had to leave the hall, each member was assigned their own steps. One by one patrol members entered the hall, completed their step and ran out of the hall to tag the next member in a relay style race!
Patrols were challenged particularly in their planning, cooking and communication skills!
Photos from our hosteling weekend at the end of January/start of February.
We hiked up towards Raven’s Rock in “mixed weather conditions”. There was a mixture of sunshine, cloud, fog, driving rain and sleet!
We stopped off on the way back down off the hills to do some backwoods cooking for lunch. The hot food was very much needed!
That evening after warm showers we had our dinner and played card and board games in the hostel! Lots of amazing memories from a fantastic weekend!
Hi all,
We will be heading to Knockree this weekend and staying in the hostel. We will be meeting on Friday at 6.45pm, travelling to Knockree and heading out on the hills on Saturday. We will be staying in a hostel but everyone will need lots and lots of warm clothes and rain gear (rain coat with a hood and rain trousers). At the moment the forecast is “thick cloud cover with a couple of showers”
As discussed with the scouts – Mobile phones will not be needed, mobile coverage is very limitied. any Scout’s phones will be collected by leaders at the start of the weekend.
We are aiming to be back at the Den on Sunday at 12pm.
The full gear list is below:
Bring the following if you have it:
Thursday 23rd January was Dessert week. Patrols were reminded that “Desserts is Stressed backwards” and not to have any stress when preparing the yummy, scrummy desserts! Each patrol was given a technical challenge to produce Brownies but were not allowed to used an oven (there are no ovens on camp!). As you can see from the photos all the patrols rose to the challenge !!
Patrols worked exceptionally well together to produce a main course fit for a King or Queen! The 3 patrols worked under intense time pressure to produce meals of a high standard. Every Scout rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in – Team Work Makes The Dream Work!
Each Patrol was provided with ingredients to make pancakes. Patrols had to work together to prepare, cook and clean up….. all paying particular attention to safety and hygiene.
