Hi All,
The Leopold Batt Memorial Trophy will be held over this weekend. It is really shaping up to be an amazing fun weekend, jam packed with awesome activities – orienteering, building fires, sleeping in bivvys under the stars, abseiling down cliffs, sailing in boats on the estuary…… to name but a few!
We are hoping all Scouts will be taking part and will be meeting at the Scout Den at 8:50am on Saturday morning. Full Uniform is not required (All must wear Neckerchief).
Please do not bring portable electronics (e.g. phone, ipad, speakers etc). The activities do not require these items and they will be at risk if you bring them.
Here is the gear list:
– Neckerchief
– Full raingear (Trousers, and Jacket with hood: Must be water proof)
– Sleeping bag
– Ground mat
– Survival Bag (Bivvy Bag)
– Eating utensils (Spoon, Fork, Knife, Plate, Bowl and Cup)
– Warm Clothes (Many T-shirts, warm jumper)
– Wet Clothes (i.e. we will be getting clothes wet so bring a full change and a pair of old runners)
– Hiking boots
– Towel
– Wash gear
– Hat and Gloves
– Torch – preferably a head torch with spare batteries
– A rucksack to put it all in
– Plastic Bags
– Day Bag (Regular sized backpack)
Bring the following if you have it:
– A penknife (if you have permission from your parents)
– A basic first aid kit
– Flint & Steel
– Compass
– Watch

Troop meeting will start as usual at 7pm but will finish early at 8.30pm.
This is to allow the Leaders prepare gear for the weekend.

Don’t forget this weekend, we are taking part in the Leopold Batt Memorial trophy challenge weekend.
This will be an action packed weekend, with the highlight of bivvying out in Turvey Woods on Saturday night.
We will be meeting at 09.00 AM this Saturday 17th October, and will be finished on Sunday at about 3.30 PM.
A full gear list will be posted shortly and we will go through at this weeks Troop meeting.

Hope you are all enjoying the “summer” weather….lets hope the weather keeps up for this weekend! We’ll be hoping to top up our tans while we’re camping in Larch Hill! A reminder that the cost of the weekend is €30
We will be leaving on Friday evening and returning on Sunday afternoon. There were a couple of Scouts who may have to be picked up early – the location and directions to the centre can be found here
We have listed the gear list below. Note the weather forecast is here but this can easily change. Let’s live by our motto and “be prepared” for all types of weather. We will be hiking and camping outdoors the whole time so make sure you have clothes to keep you warm and dry.

Great to see you all last week! We’ve have a few updates listed below.
As discussed the Scout County camp will be in Larch Hill in a couple of weeks. We’ll be heading off on the Friday evening…..doing loads of awesome activities, camping in Larch Hill…….returning on Sunday afternoon. It’ll also be a fantastic opportunity to get to know some of the other Scouts in the county. The theme of the weekend is Camelot so it promises to be great craic. The cost of the weekend is €30.
We spoke with a few Scouts about the possibility of working towards the Scout Chief Scout Award; To apply you must be at least 14 to begin the Award. The challenges are:
Skill: One Special Interest Badge from the “Skill” Area
Physical: One Special Interest Badge in the “Physical” Area
Community: One Special Interest Badge from the “Community” Area
Environment: One Special Interest Badge from the “Environment” Area
Scout Skill: Two Adventure Skills to Stage 4; One Adventure Skill to Stage 6
Expedition: Walking 25 -35 km over 2 consecutive days and one night
Residential/Intercultural: Shared activity with a group in a residential/camp setting for 4 days and 3 nights, must include an intercultural aspect and a community project
We kicked off the search to find the Raven of the year 2015/16 last week, who will emerge as the top Raven in 12 months time? Only time will tell. Points are awarded for perfect uniform, strong performances during drill, attending activities and Bonus points are on offer for showing true Scouting spirit!
Aoife has raced into an early lead of 75 points with a pristine uniform and coming out on top to win drill. Harry is close behind after emerging victorious from the game and is on a total of 72 points. Dylan is currently sitting in the bronze medal position on 55 points, there are too many names to mention who are hot on their heels…. it’s early days yet, keep up the extremely high standard!!!

Welcome back again everybody and a special welcome to our 2 new recruits – Mario and Ben……It was great to see everybody last Thursday, looking forward to the year ahead….it’s gonna be whopper!
As we discussed we have a couple of awesome events planned for October. The details are below, so make sure and pencil them into your busy diaries. We are hoping all Scouts can attend. A reminder to keep an eye on our Upcoming Events area, which is over there —>
Scout County Camp – Fri 2nd – Sun 4th October 2015
We will be camping in Larch Hill with all of the different groups from Fingal County.
The theme of the event is Camelot so there will be kings, princesses, castles, wizards, knights games, a Camelot trade fair and loads more great craic!!!
Leopold Batt Memorial Competition – Sat 17th – Sun 18th October
Each Patrol will be battling it out to see who is the greatest Scout Patrol in Brackenstown! The event is named after the group’s founder Leopold Batt. There are loads and loads of great activities planned for the weekend – including abseiling, orienteering, water sports and bivvying in Turvey woods ….we will be sleeping under the stars on the Saturday night!
