Kerry Trip – it’s official

We may have been telling you about this for some time but we have finally set the dates for our trip to Kerry to climb Carrantuohill.

We will be staying in the Killarney International Youth Hostel on Friday 30th of April until Monday 3rd of May.

The cost has been provisionally set at €60 a head.

The hostel is really good and it has loads of woods for wide games and the like. Check it out here.

The plan is to climb this >>>

Weather permitting. [and not from this particular side either]

We also hope to do some lightweight camping in the Hags Glenn as part of it – again weather permitting.

So hopefully we can be like this >>>>>

Mid Term news

Hi all , hope you are all enjoying your mid term break and doing lots of jobs at home for your Parents! A big thanks to all who were away at the Weekend, a geat time was had by all. Well done to Eoin on winning Scout of the Weekend.

Just a quick reminder about two things, firstly there is NO Troop meeting this Thursday so enjoy the night off. Secondly and very important, next Monday night is the Group AGM, a Parent or Guardian must attend for each Scout. The meeting will start at 8.pm sharp and finish probably around 9.30. Please mention to your Parents as this is an important meeting.

Will update site in a couple of days with pictures of weekend and information about weekend in Rostrevor.

Bear Grylls Weekend

***WARNING you need to say you are going on this TODAY – TUESDAY FEBRUARY 9***

Ok,
This is very short notice but we are going to Knockree this weekend for some really extreme Bear Grylls awesomeness.

We will be leaving the Den on Friday 12th Feb at 8pm staying in the hostel the first night and then doing a full day of backwoods – building shelters and cooking – on Saturday and then Bivi-ing or camping that night (providing the weather is okay).

It’s going to be bitterly cold so the following are absolutely essential – and will be checked in the Den.

1. Hiking boots
2. Pairs of thick socks
3. 3 warm jumpers
4. Sleeping bag
5. Rain Gear top and bottoms
6. Warm Hat
7. Warm gloves
8. Torch with spare batteries
9. Ground mat
10. Bivi/Survival Bag
11. Mug for drinking tea out of all night
12. Eating utensils
13. Emergency rations

These things are absolutely flippin’ essential – just to make that point.

The patrol who won the Hiker Challenge will be announced and a prize will be given out for the most extreme ‘Bear Grylls’ style activity* on the weekend.

You have to contact Lisa TODAY to get a place we need to book pronto.

*This does not include killing or terrorising livestock or wildlife.

Hello all 26 Jan 2010

Hi to all, big thank you to all who turned up for the directory delivery last Saturday. Thanks to those who advised for various reasons why they could not be there.  To those Scouts that just did not bother, its not fair to avail of the benefits of something if you are not prepared to play your part in it.

Troop Meeting this Thursday 07.00 pm, Full Uniform, balance of Subs is due now, so if you have not paid please do so as soon as possible.  Will update you on upcoming activities.

See you Thursday
